If you've ever owned a dog then you know as well as I do that their ability to love far surpasses many creatures on this Earth, including many of our own human species. A dog is not known for its loyal personality and devotion for no reason what-so-ever, it is actually quite warranted. Yet despite their well-known reputation, it is often forgotten just how much a dog's natural instincts can drastically alter the lives of humans around them.
Recently one dog reminded her entire community, and then the rest of the world, just how much of an impact a dog can have when she saved an abandoned infant from certain death.
In the streets of Argentina a well-known local dog, commonly referred to as "Way," is frequently seen roaming the streets, searching and begging for scraps of food or food leftover, intended for the trash. As with many stray dogs, Way was a mother herself, to a litter of puppies she was rearing at the time of the incident.
Her evening was no different than any other as she roamed the streets and alleyways of Argentina when she quite literally stumbled on a one-month-old baby. The baby had been abandoned in a dark alley. He was utterly helpless and quite literally left to die in a horrific fashion. The baby's 33-year-old mother left her helpless infant to freeze to death in the harsh winter nights of Argentina because she no longer wanted a child of her own.
In a miracle of immense proportions, Way was having none of that nonsense and she recruited her puppies to help her keep the baby warm. Way and her puppies wrapped completely around the freezing infant in a desperate effort to keep the baby warm and protect him from the harsh winds and temperatures well known in Argentina during the winter.
There is no doubt about it, if it was not for Way the dog and her maternal instincts, that innocent baby would have died that night.
The following morning the ordeal took a happy note when a local woman named, Alejandra Griffa heard the baby's cries from the alley and made her way over to investigate. When she arrived at the bundle of fur and baby she noticed the abandoned infant almost immediately and rushed it to the nearest hospital for much needed emergency care.
Shortly after the 33-year-old mother who abandoned her one-month old infant was identified and promptly arrested.
Way the dog's maternal instincts for her own puppies was miraculously extended onto the abandoned infant. Much to the baby's benefit, Way and her puppies did a fabulous job keeping the poor infant warm enough to survive the brutal night until Alejandra arrived to find the group bundled and huddled together in the morning.
It certainly comes as no surprise to us that Way was immediately seen and deemed as a HERO in both her community and to the world that heard of her story. As Way continues to roam the streets of Argentina as a stray dog with her litter of puppies, the community around her continues to regard her highly as a hero.
